Art and Design

At Perry Hall Primary School, we believe Art and Design is an essential and valuable part of the curriculum, empowering learners and enriching them to express themselves freely and creatively. We aim to engage, inspire and challenge pupils, whilst equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art using a range of resources and materials. Pupils are encouraged to value the process of their art and be proud of what they achieve and learn, not just the outcome. Placing the focus on the process nurtures pupil's confidence and encourages critical thinking and curiosity, which promotes resilient and reflective learners.

Through learning about a diverse range of local, national and international artists, craft makers and designers, the art curriculum should expand children’s understanding of the contribution art makes to our cultural heritage and how history has been shaped.

Children are encouraged to explore the visual, tactile and sensory qualities of materials  and processes, and to discuss their work amongst their peers with reference to artists who have inspired them. They will start to make connections between their work and other creative practitioners as well as using art to see different perspectives of the world. We want to ensure that Art and Design is embedded in our whole school curriculum with opportunities for enhancing learning by using art.
