At Perry Hall Primary School Philosophy, Religion and Ethics (PRE) aims to develop pupil’s knowledge and understanding of the religions and beliefs which form part of the multicultural and multi faith society that we live in today. Our curriculum provokes the children to consider challenging questions about the ultimate meaning and purpose of life, beliefs about God, the self and the nature of reality and issues of right and wrong. It allows pupils to develop knowledge and understanding of Christianity and other principal religions, religious traditions and worldviews that offer answers to questions such as these. All pupils have the opportunity to be immersed in a religion or cultural tradition through the meeting of religious leaders or visits to places of worship. Our PRE curriculum equally aims to contribute to pupils’ personal development and well-being and to community cohesion by promoting mutual respect and tolerance in our diverse society. We offer opportunities for personal reflection and spiritual development, deepening the understanding of the significance of religion in the lives of others – individually, communally and cross-culturally.
We believe exploring the concepts of religion and belief and their roles in the spiritual, moral and cultural lives of people in a diverse society helps individuals develop moral awareness and social understanding. Personal development and well-being themes in our PRE education help children become successful learners, confident individuals and responsible citizens. It gives them the knowledge, skills and understanding to strengthening their capacity for making moral judgements and for evaluating positive and healthy choices.
