Welcome to Perry Hall's Eco Committee page!
At Perry Hall Primary School, we all work hard to do our part for our planet. We are an Eco School and in July 2019 we achieved the Green Flag award in recognition of our hard work towards becoming a sustainable, eco-friendly community and taking positive action to protect and preserve our planet. Our green flag flies above our school and we are very proud of it!
At the beginning of each school year an Eco-Committee is elected, which includes two pupils from each class who represent their peers at regular meetings. They share ideas and help implement new initiatives. The current members of the Eco Committee are:
Year 1 - Jasper, Lucia, Hayley and Cody
Year 2 - Johnny, Orla, Fleur and Zoya
Year 3 - Ava, Zac, Finley and Maisie
Year 4 - Thomas, Madison, Holly and Xavier
Year 5 - Evie, Siyar, Ned and Florie
Year 6 - Tara, Lucy, Mattia and Caitlyn
Miss Jordan-Connelly – Eco Lead and EYFS teacher
Mrs Mace – Parent volunteer and Local Committee Member
The committee aim to meet at least every half term to discuss our ongoing projects and to brainstorm ideas for new initiatives. They look at everyday activities at school and consider the changes we as a community can make to help our environment. Below you can see the minutes from recent Eco meetings.
As part of the Eco Schools framework the Eco-Committee completed an Environmental Review around the school, created an Eco Code, and identified the key topics that they would like to focus their efforts into making improvements in. The current topics are: Waste, Energy, Marine, Biodiversity and Transport. The Eco-Committee brainstormed ideas and together they created our school's Environmental Action Plan just before lockdown in March 2020. COVID-19 restrictions have led us to work in different ways this year and meant some of our actions have been put on hold, however we have still been able to make great progress in some areas. You can view the Environmental Review, Eco Code and Action Plan below.
In June 2021 we are delighted to be chosen as the UK Champion for the Better Energy School Awards for work around environmental education and our innovative Pass-it-on Project, which focuses on reusing items to reduce waste. In addition to this Perry Hall was also awarded Regional Champion for Central and Southern England in the Totally Creative category for the pupils fantastic Guardians of the planet artwork, and regional runners up in the Totally creative category for our Food Waste Warriors project.
The Eco-Committee have been working hard on all five current topics: Waste, Energy, Marine, Biodiversity and Transport. Find out more about our projects for each topic by viewing the links below.
